RSS Feed Added
 Posted in Site News As you may have noticed, a small  icon appeared to the far right of the Blog header. You guessed it right.
That's an RSS feed icon. We just added a cool feed to our Blog entries at uRateIt. As most of you already know, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. An RSS
feed or document contains either summaries of blog entries, news headlines, forum threads or full version content. Webmasters use RSS feeds to offer their users
a simple way to automatically keep up with their favorite web sites without having to constantly checking them manually. People are able to receive RSS content
by entering the feed's link into a software called "feed reader" or an "aggregator".
We thought this would make a nice add-on to our Blog section of the website. This way, you can keep in touch with any future site news which will be posted to our Blog. What's more, uRateIt
didn't stop there. In fact, we are planning on adding feeds for all our businesses, product or places pages. You will then be able to, let's say, receive automatic updates
whenever a new restaurant is added or a doctor is rated. Possibilities are endless. So stay tuned, and check your feed!

Print Version Update

Among the several features uRateIt offers its users to enhance their surfing experience is the possibility of getting a print version of your business or product selections. "What's the big deal?", some of you may ask. As most of you know already know, printing a document from its specially formatted printer version is not the same thing as printing it from a regular interface web page. That is, when you print data on a regular web page, you also end up printing a lot of unnecessary stuff like graphics, advertising boxes, etc. That is definitely not the way to go, especially in those cases when content is the only thing you are interested in.
To overcome this technical issue, we decided to offer our users a simple but effective print version of businesses and products pages clean of graphics and interfaces clutter. The original version of our print preview add-on involved mashing item details, reviews, and map all in one print version of it. We recently decided to change that in favor of a more selective approach. Currently, our users are able to get separate versions of business details such as street address, contact numbers, etc, business ratings, and map location if available. This way, surfers who only want to print, let's say, business ratings, are free to do that.
 To unleash the full potential of this great add-on, you just have to look for the printer icon floating to the right side of each Details, Ratings, and Map sections on individual business or products pages. Sooner than you think you will be on your way to print nicely formatted clutter free print versions of your favorite business selections. Just make sure you have enough printing paper!

Finding your way

The more observant of you may have noticed a new link appeared right under the business/product image on individual business pages showing details, reviews, and prices. The link says "Find on Map". That is correct. You heard it right. Not only do we want to provide you with the best selections of your businesses or products of choice, but take you there too!!
We thought, "Hey, instead of having our users go through the hassle of copying and pasting addresses details back and forth into an outside mapping service website, let's do it inhouse, with the help of well renowned Google Maps. So, armed with a fresh Google Maps API key and reference documents (geek stuff!), off we were, writing a nice, intuitive add-on which would make your "getting there" stage a breeze.
As you can see from the above image, businesses locations are highlighted on the map with a red marker which resembles a hot-air balloon. Relevant street names and popular points of interest are also highlighted for your convenience. We decided to give our users full Google Maps functionality. So we went ahead and added full zoom and map movement capabilities. This way you are free to move around your selected business, and virtually visit all its surroundings. What's more, we have taken this project a step further. We have added the standard Map Type selection tool on top of every map. This tool gives you the possibility to switch back and forth between Map view and Satellite view, or even have a "Hybrid" look at your business selection area. This is a particularly nice feature, as it gives you a satellite view of the area together with highlighted street names and relevant points of interest.
We believe this will be a great add-on which will greatly enhance our users' experience with our service. We look forward to hearing what you think about it. And always remember to feel free to let us know of any other great feature you would like to see added to uRateIt. Enjoy the ride!

Restaurants, Restaurants, and more Restaurants!!
Posted in Site NewsAs announced in our first blog entry, we decided to start populating our directory with restaurants first. Dining out is a nice way to relieve a stressful day at work, meet some old time friends, or just enjoy some great cuisine. We at uRateIt hope to do our best to bring you the best worldwide restaurants selections. So, what's on the menu?!
We recently started adding some Canadian restaurants to the mix. The Canadian restaurants section is quite big, boosting a total of about 40,000 entries. So far we have added restaurants from the following countries:
If your country is not there, don't worry. It will soon be! Also, if you know of a good restaurant or even a bad restaurant you would like to add and rate, consider joining us and becoming a uRateIt editor/reviewer. Bon Appetit!

uRateIt is Live!!!
Posted in Site News uRateIt is live!!! Well, not quite live...BETA live! Hello and welcome to uRateIt. As you may have already guessed, uRateIt is the website where U RATE IT. uRateIt helps consumers make informed buying decisions by providing them with prices and ratings on millions of products, services, and places available on the worldwide markets. It intends to position itself as a major hub for reviewing and comparing products and services currently sold or located in the United States and the European Union, as well as in any other part of the world.
uRateIt has been in the works for quite a few months now. Our original plan for the site was to go online only after completing loading our directory with the millions of products and businesses. However, that meant it would take us quite a few more months before actually going live. Instead, we recently decided to put the site online while gradually working on adding all the products and services to our directories. That would give us the possibility to test that everything is working properly and get us ready for the actual launch! In addition, Google can take its time to start indexing our pages, which would surely help us with traffic further down the road.
You may have noticed we currently only have restaurants in our database. That is correct. In fact, we started filling our directory with restaurants first. We already added about 10,000 worldwide restaurants. We have 250,000 more to go!
Even though uRateIt is not ready for launching yet, it is live and working. However, if you try to browse most of the categories shown on the home page, you will get a message saying, "We are currently updating the XYZ section. Please check back later or get notified when it becomes available! Our currently working sections are:Restaurants". Please bear with us. We hope you will be delighted with the results!
